Holly Ridge has a rich and interesting history in fishing and farming with strong ties to the military. In 1940 historic Camp Davis was built, which led to a population explosion that increased the town's numbers from 28 in 1940 to 110,000 in 1943. Camp Davis is known for having the first Barrage Balloon Training Center and the distinction of being the only Army post with anti-aircraft, seacoast defense, and barrage balloon all under one command. Camp Davis also was used by the Navy in 1946 as the base for "Operation Bumblebee," a secret guided missile testing program.
The population of Holly Ridge currently is just under 1500 residents. After its role in military history, Holly Ridge began to carve out its new role as the gateway to the Treasure Coast. With its convenient location, beautiful setting, and small town charm, it's no wonder that visitors keep coming back for more.
